Often I use this 4th of July blogfest to offer up a clip from the film 1776. And I don't know if I've shared this one about the New Brunswick Letter that General Washington (drum roll) sent to Congress about the situation with morale:
"Oh good God..." - John Adams in real life, arguably every day of his life.
Later on, this conversation probably happened in real life as well.
Adams: Wake up, Franklin, you're going to New Brunswick!
Franklin: (nodding off) Like hell I am. What for?
Hopkins: The whoring and the drinking!
(Franklin immediately gets up and marches off right behind Adams and Chase)

Franklin wrote a guide to choosing a mistress. He recommended more mature women, for various reasons.
